May 1, 2018 - Walker, Minnesota: Cass County Attorney Ben Lindstrom has announced his intention to run for election to the Office of Cass County Attorney.
Ben Lindstrom joined the Cass County Attorney's Office in 2010 as an Assistant County Attorney and was officially sworn in as the County Attorney on December 7, 2017. Prior to starting with the County Attorney's Office, Lindstrom worked for the State Public Defender's Office in Brainerd and the Minnesota Judiciary in the Fourth Judicial District. He received his law degree from Hamline University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota.
Lindstrom has experience obtaining indictments for First Degree Murder through the grand jury process and has successfully prosecuted matters involving criminal vehicular homicide, serious assaults, felons in possession of firearms, burglaries, drug crimes and much more. He has successfully appealed adverse District Court decisions to the Minnesota Court of Appeals and has defended appeals brought by others against the County.
While every case that comes through the County Attorney's Office is important and needs to be given appropriate attention, litigation can be a time consuming and expensive endeavor. As County Attorney, Lindstrom plans to allocate more of the County's finite prosecution resources towards holding violent and repeat offenders accountable. The experience Lindstrom has gained working as both an Assistant County Attorney and as the Cass County Attorney has allowed him to develop good working relationships with law enforcement. These relationships ensure the County Attorney's Office can get the best results possible when cases need to be litigated. Lindstrom plans to free up more litigation resources by creating more efficient ways to process the high volume of cases that come through the County Attorney's Office each year. This plan includes strategies to reduce the number of court appearances required to process any given case and moving the Office towards a paperless system that allows staff to spend less time looking for information and more time processing it. Lindstrom also plans to increase public awareness about the criminal justice system and the Cass County Attorney's Office through the use of social media and other outlets.
Lindstrom has a lifelong love for Cass County, having spent much of his childhood with his father in the Longville area. He currently lives just outside of Pine River in the City of Chickamaw Beach with his wife Lindsey and their three children. His wife is also an attorney who specializes in child protection and juvenile matters. Lindstrom served as Treasurer for the City of Chickamaw Beach before being sworn in as the Cass County Attorney.
